Following the seemingly increasing trend of new climbing games, Ludogram has released a ton of new information on its newest game, Ascenders: Beyond The Peak.
Ascenders: Beyond The Peak is a rogue-like game that aggregates turn-based climbing and expedition management while also incorporating realistic rope physics and permanent consequences. If a climber gets lost in the deep dark of the mountain, they take their resources and morale with them, plus their death even has a psychological impact on the rest of the expedition. Read the mountain and choose a route with precision.
The mountains populating Ascenders: Beyond The Peak are not all what they seem. Within the depths of the mountains lies the pitter-patter of Lovecraftian threats. It’s your job as team leader to navigate these threats and keep everyone alive, or risk losing an essential member of the team to hubris or more. The goal is to use your built-up experience to scale the mountain, keep your team alive, and find artifacts to secure them from malicious threats.
These artifacts are the rewards for every successful expedition made. Hailing from a long-lost civilization, they would naturally contain a lot of power within them, which means that they can be used on future expeditions, camp upgrades, or traded to different factions for varied rewards. These factions also have an impact, as your choices of which mountains to summit, who you’ve helped in the past, and more will all affect the reputation that you and your expedition hold. All of these factors will affect the state of the world at large and even possible game endings.
What makes Ascenders: Beyond The Peak unique among the other games akin to it on the market is its focus on rope mechanics. Every team member on the expedition is connected solely by one rope, meaning that positioning on tough cliffs is more than essential. Any mistake could lead to a catastrophic error, most certainly making you choose to cut the rope and leave some team members behind or abandon the climb altogether.

To add more varied approaches to scaling mountains, each climber has a set of classes that give them their own ways of dealing with the climb. A highlander can shove foes off the cliff face, a scout can reposition with a grappling hook, and a sapper can even use explosives to change the tide of battle. The classes will each benefit from the different levels, which are described as “short and intense” in the press release. Meaning that thing slike ice sheets make you lose your grip, rockfalls could give way beneath your feet or an avalanche that can completely bury you.
Ascenders: Beyond The Peak is being developed by the aforementioned Ludogram Games and published by Twin Sails Interactive. The early access release is slated for a quarter three 2026 release.
