The Epic Games Store is officially launching on mobile today, depending on your phone and location. The store will be available on iOS in the EU and Android worldwide.
Three games will be available at the store’s launch – Fortnite, Fall Guys Mobile and Rocket League Sideswipe. Notably, this marks the first time Fortnite has been playable on iPhone in four years, ever since a 2020 dispute over payments between Apple and Epic.
In a media briefing (reported by Gamesindustry.biz) Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney thanked the European Commission for “holding Apple and Google’s feet to the fire” and passing the DMA law that allowed the Epic Games Store to launch on iOS.
“[Apple and Google] are going to great efforts to slow us down and tried to stop us sever times, and the EC always stepped up and ensured that competitors were able to enter the market, which we’re now doing.”
The process isn’t quite as simple as finding the Epic Games Store on the App Store, however. Apparently, the storefront has to be downloaded from Epic’s website and is a bit complex. Epic has provided a step-by-step walkthrough on how to do it on both iOS and Android.
In terms of the games available, Fortnite likely needs no introduction, as it continues to be one of the most popular multiplayer and battle royale games in the world.
Fall Guys Mobile is just what it sounds like: a mobile version of the smash-hit battle royale platforming game. But it sounds like the mobile version pretty much has parity with the full version of the game, even having crossplay with consoles and PC. According to the game’s website, players on mobile will receive all the same updates, fame passes, levels, and costumes as every other platform. The only thing that won’t be available at launch is Fall Guys Creative; those community levels will still be playable.
Rocket League Sideswipe, meanwhile, is a mobile version of the car soccer game, played from a side view instead of a third-person view. Like the main game it has rotating seasonal odes that include Volleyball and Hoops variants.
