From Apple Original Films and the filmmakers from Top Gun: Maverick, F1 covers a former FORMULA 1 driver after an accident sidelined his career.
The latest movie coming from Apple Films is from the minds behind Top Gun: Maverick. F1 stars Brad Pitt in a role that sees him mentor a younger driver on the biggest (and fastest) stage of racing, FORMULA 1. After a huge crash forces Sonny Hayes (Pitt) into early retirement, he shakes off the cobwebs to take another shot at FORMULA 1 by becoming the mentor of a younger driver. The newly released trailer can be seen below.
Described in the trailer as “the greatest that never was,” Hayes has his work cut out for him when he attempts to mentor a young upstart driver, Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris), in his return to F1. Previously touted as one of the top prospects in FORMULA 1, Hayes returns to the sport thirty years later when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who doubles as the owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Hayes that his time isn’t up, and he should to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving his team and being the ‘greatest that was.’

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), F1 is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, seven-time FORMULA 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman. The star-studded cast includes Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.
F1 doesn’t have a set-in-stone release date just yet, but Apple Original Films has committed to the film’s release in the Summer 2025, so fans will have to wait until then to hit the track.
