Remedy Says Changes Are Coming to FBC: Firebreak’s Perk System

A New Patch Next Week

Remedy Details Changes Coming to FBC: Firebreak's Perk System

FBC: Firebreak has had a fairly big launch, hitting 1 million players, but it hasn’t been without its hiccups and struggles. Chief among some of the frustrations players have had is a complex and confusing perk system — and that’s one of the first things getting big changes.

In a Steam post, Remedy Entertainment detailed the lengthy changes coming to FBC: Firebreak’s Perk System and how it hopes to improve it, saying “The goal is clear: more agency, more variety, and more ways to make your Firebreaker your own.”

The overall emphasis is to update the Perk economy, making it much smoother to actually unlock perks. New perks are raising your overall Firebraker Rank, essentially your player level. Here are the two main points that will be changing,

  • Some Perk sets will become cheaper across all levels, while others will go up in cost.
  • The overall time to unlock everything will remain about the same, but you’ll gain access to the resonance system across a wider range of perks much earlier.

To help ease confusion, the post goes into detail about how the Perk system actually works. Once Perks are unlocked you can use two currencies, Lost Assets and Research Samples, to buy them. Every Perk can be upgraded from Level 1 to Level 2 and then Level 3, but it will take up more slots in your nine-perk inventory.

Now the Resonance System is one of the more confusing aspects, so here’s the official description of it.

“The Resonance System allows fully upgraded Perks (level III) to benefit nearby teammates. This means that by sticking close to your squad, you can tap into each other’s loadouts, whether you’re the one with the boost or simply standing near someone who is.

It’s our way of closing the gap between seasoned players and newer Firebreakers. Just being part of a team gives you a leg up.

Also worth noting: your personal Resonance Shield, which protects you from damage, only recharges when you’re near at least one teammate and recharges even faster when you’re close to both.”

More details on all of the changes will be coming in the full patch notes, along with the patch, next week.

FBC: Firebreak is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
