Fortnite Lawless Brings GTA-Adjacent Gameplay to Chapter 6 Season 2

On Thursday, Epic Games and Fortnite revealed the theme for the upcoming Chapter 6 Season 2 update, and the newly named Fortnite Lawless aims to bring crime to Battle Island.

Fortnite‘s latest theme has been finally pulled into the light, and Epic Games has introduced the new Chapter 6 Season 2 update as Fortnite Lawless. Moving away from the Japanese-inspired Chapter 6 Season 1, Epic Games has just officially unveiled the first look at Lawless on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, and the post can be seen below.

The new Season unleashes the grittier side of Fortnite Battle Royale, pitting combatants against one another on the mean streets of Crime City. The gritty tone appears to suggest yet another ‘heist’ based season is landing in Battle Royale, but this season appears to embody a darker tone than Midas’ first appearance back in early 2024. A WANTED sign featuring a more run-down version of the character can be seen on a light post in an area setting that pedals GTA IV Liberty City energy.

The seedier setting also allows for speculation (and fans have done so over on Reddit). While some on the internet believe the darker setting channels GTA vibes, the defaced Crimson City sign also echoes Fallout: New Vegas and the Batman: Arkham Series version of Gotham City. Seeing as how Batman is already a skin featured in the Fortnite Item Shop, it’s possible Fortnite Lawless can bring more of Gotham’s bad actors to Crime City. Fans have also notably noticed the edgier content, and user NickEh30 commented under the post asking, “Hey @Fortnite is the new season family-friendly?”

Epic Games has not confirmed the rating for the new season yet, but every other seasonal content update has not included content higher than a ‘Teen” ESRB rating.

Fortnite Lawless takes over with a Season 6 Chapter 2 update on February 21.
