To reconcile with fans following a large PlayStation Plus outage on February 7, Sony has gifted fans 5 days free of the PSPlus subscription service, and fans seemingly have to take it.
Earlier this week, Sony began distributing the promised free five days of PlayStation Plus for the network outage that happened back on February 7. According to fans, Sony credited accounts without warning, and even those who may not have wanted the free five days of PSPlus have been credited with it anyway.

Sony never explained the reasoning behind the February outage, but the Sony way to apologize for the issues caused by the outage is to gift all members of the PlayStation Network a free five-day pass to PlayStation Plus at no extra charge. The newly announced March additions to the PSPlus catalogue includes the latest title from Bioware, Dragon Age: The Veilguard as well as Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection for the entirety of March for just having an active PSPlus membership.
To claim the free days of Plus, it will automatically be credited to player accounts without extra intervention. For fans to check on whether they received the free days or not can go under the “Subscriptions” tab in the PS Store and check their next payment date to see if an extra five days have been tacked on under ‘next payment date.’ Fans have notably taken to Reddit forums to voice concerns about the auto application of free time.

One user, Obvious_Damage_7085 says “This extends my membership beyond the annual Black Friday deal. What should I do?” referring to the discount members can get when they renew memberships with Black Friday sales offered on PSPlus subscriptions. Another user, ShadowVen_ voices a similar concern but says “There goes my window to buy PSPlus on next sale. Have to wait 5 months now, not even worth it. Wish they gave us a choice to redeem it or not.” It appears the auto rollout of free five-day PlayStation Plus days interferes with discounts offered on the subscription, and fans are not happy about it.
While Sony has yet to comment on this situation, it remains to be seen whether they will correct fan issues on the free rollout.
