Developer 11 Bit Studios has announced a massive new modding contest for its city-builder survival game, Frostpunk 2.
The competition will kick off on July 11, and the submission deadline is August 22 – with winners announced on September 1. And there’s some surprisingly big prizes that are being promised as well, chief of which is 10,000 USD and 4 AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT GPUs. This clearly isn’t just a fun little community event.
There are multiple categories that can be won, and most of them correspond the most popular style of mods if you look on somewhere like Nexus mods — things like altering resource intake, changing the political systems, etc. Previously created modes can be entered for the competition just like new ones, but everything needs to be uploaded on mod.io. Here’s an overview of what 11 Bit says the jury will be looking for,
“Creativity, playability, and most importantly, fun! After all, you are the strategy genre experts, and we would like to see what you will come up with to make the Frostpunk 2 experience even more interesting. New stories and mechanics? Insane mode? Replace snow with sand? Add dinosaurs? Introduce a swamp with ogres? The Steward would rejoice!”

Frostpunk 2 is set 30 years after the original game, and first released on PC in 2024, with consoles releases on PlayStation and Xbox planned for sometime in 2025. Both critical and fan reception to the sequel has been mostly positive, with the game even winning Best Sim/Strategy Game at The Game Awards 2024.
