Amazon and Prime Video have revealed a first look at the live-action adaptation of God of War, giving us our first glimpse at what Kratos and Atreus will look like in the TV series. You can see the still image below.

Kratos is being played by Ryan Hurst, best known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Outsiders. But ironically, you might also know him as the voice of Thor in God of War Ragnarok, so he does have a ton of familiarity with the franchise. Atreus, on the other hand, is being played by Callum Vinson, who’s appeared in the likes of Long Bright River and Poker Face.

The duo will be joined by Ed Skrein as Baldur, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, and Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor.

The series will seemingly follow the plot of the 2018 reboot, as Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother. However, we don’t know if a single season will cover the entire game or if multiple seasons are planned.

Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) is serving as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Additional executive producers include Mail Davis, Cory Barlog, Neren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Emmy-award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shogun, The Boys, Fallout) has also already signed on to direct the first two episodes of the series.

Needless to say, reactions to the image online haven’t exactly been positive, with some citing a sort of “cheap” look, like one of those early 2000s live-action ads. Still, it is just a single image so far, and Amazon has already done a bang-up job with Fallout.

Amazon’s God of War is currently in production and doesn’t have a release date as of yet.
