Two classic turn-based RPGs are headed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass next week, and fans can expect Golden Sun and its sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age to hit the platform.
Late last evening, Nintendo made a huge splash on X (formerly Twitter) by announcing the arrival of two cult-classic turn-based RPGs to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Golden Sun and its sequel will land on the service on January 17. The full tweet, including a brief video teaser, can be seen below.
Firstly for those unfamiliar, Golden Sun is a turn-based RPG that was initially released for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, and held comparisons to another turn-based RPG series gaining immense popularity at the time, Final Fantasy. The story involved the quest of four young adepts Isaac, Garet, Ivan and Mia to stop the power of Alchemy from being unleashed on their world of Weyard. On the other hand, The Lost Age is a direct sequel that follows the exploits of the main antagonist of the original title, Felix, on his quest to prove Alchemy isn’t truly harmful to the world and may be the key to saving Weyard after all.

The original reception of the title was of critical acclaim, with the original Golden Sun title holding 88% from over 200 user reviews on Metacritic, and The Lost Age garnering 86% from users. It’s worth noting the Nintendo DS title, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn released in 2010, has not been mentioned in this release, nor has any inference the series will continue after these ports happen. So any news aside from Nintendo or Camelot announcing a new title themselves should be taken with a grain of salt.
Both Golden Sun titles will arrive on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription service on January 17. Fans can also head to the official Nintendo news site to stay in the loop.
