Rockstar Games has delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, pushing its launch from 2025 to May 2026.
Rockstar Games has finally given fans an update on the Grand Theft Auto VI release date—and unfortunately, it won’t be launching in 2025. The world’s most anticipated game now has a new release window, courtesy of the Rockstar team, and it’s more than a year away. Rockstar shared the news on its official X account (formerly Twitter). Interestingly, back in February 2026, Take-Two Interactive—Rockstar Games’ parent company—recommitted to delivering Grand Theft Auto VI on time during its earnings call. At the time, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “Look, there’s always a risk of slippage, and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things. So we feel really good about it,” adding, “We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I’m fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we’re all running scared and looking over our shoulders, and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.”
Rockstar Games has now confirmed the “slippage” referenced by CEO Strauss Zelnick during Take-Two Interactive’s earlier earnings call. With the latest delay, the studio has assured fans that it remains committed to exceeding expectations, just as it aims to do with every Grand Theft Auto release. In its post, Rockstar wrote: “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
Grand Theft Auto VI now has a concrete release date of May 26, 2026, and still seems slated to launch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S.
