As the entire video game industry waits with bated breath for Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has reconfirmed the game is still planned for a Fall 2025 release date.
That reconfirmation comes from Take-Two’s annual earnings call. Even though we didn’t get any kind of firm release date, Zelnick reiterated that GTA 6 is still on track.
Speaking to IGN ahead of the earnings call about the risk of GTA 6 getting delayed, Zelnick said “Look, there’s always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things. So we feel really good about it.”
“Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally,” Zelnick says to IGN. “We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I’m fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we’re all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.”
Of course, the release of GTA 6 is likely the biggest gaming event of the entire year, perhaps only rivaled by the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s been nearly 12 years since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, and fans have been chomping at the bit for any little scrap of information for years.
At the same time, GTA 6 has the potential to smash any and all records — especially since the earnings call also revealed GTA 5 has sold a tremendous 210 million copies. Even just the reveal trailer for the game has been viewed nearly 300 million times.
And it’s not just gamers that are waiting for GTA 6’s release date, but other publishers and studios as well. Just this week, EA basically said it’d be willing to delay the release date of its new Battlefield — depending on what the “competition” does.
