Due to a new posting on social media, Hideo Kojima may have inadvertently confirmed that his version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was unfinished.
It’s no secret prolific video game maker, Hideo Kojima, likes to do two things: post on social media and tease fans, and today he may have done both. In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Kojima posted a published article from Inverse that’s titled “10 Years Later, Hideo Kojima’s Unfinished Masterpiece Is Still Influencing Today’s Games,” which implies Kojima believes Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is an ‘unfinished masterpiece.’ The post can be seen below.
Kojima has been in the headlines many times recently following the success of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Kojima’s relationship with Konami, since his departure back in 2015, has been notably estranged. In an interview with Ssense back in July 2025, Kojima laughed when asked if he would play the Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater remaster, and said, “No, I won’t,” although developer and producer Noriaki Okamura was found telling Inverse, “We want to deliver this game whilst being very respectful of all the people that we previously worked with,” adding, “We would love for [Kojima] to see it too.”
Okamura previously gave a nod to the previous MGS3 developers when he said back in June, “Speaking for myself, I would love nothing more than to work with Mr. Kojima and the rest of the team again. If that could happen, it would be a dream.”

With the post today, it appears Hideo Kojima may still harbour feelings towards the split from Konami, considering the post (and apparent confirmation) of Metal Gear Solid V being labelled “unfinished.” Fans have surmised MGSV was unfinished since its launch, and there’s still a vibrant Reddit community passionate about what could have been had Kojima remained with Konami for the title’s completion.
An article published by Inverse compared Metal Gear Solid V to the poorly received eighth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, suggesting that it is difficult to deliver a satisfying ending when the creator is not present to guide the conclusion. Hideo Kojima appeared to agree with the assessment, sharing the piece on his official X account.
While Hideo Kojima has expressed the will to move past the franchise by not touching Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the social media post shows he might still have hard feelings about how MGSV turned out.
