Hollow Knight: Silksong Has Knocked A Few Indies Off Their Release Date, And Some Fans Are Mad

As Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s release date was announced within two weeks of its release, fans are calling titles that are delayed due to it, “Silksong’d.”

Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s newly announced release date was a big surprise for fans, with an echo of “finally” hitting the entire internet at once from fans fatigued with the six-year wait since its initial announcement. However, now that the dust has settled and the September 4 release is right around the corner, some indie Game studios have decided to delay their titles out of September entirely due to Team Cherry’s command over attention. A mega-popular X (formerly Twitter) gaming poster, Wario64, is referring to these titles as “Silksong’d,” and that post can be seen below.

The anticipated upcoming tactics RPG, Demonschool, has officially been delayed to November, and there have been other titles that have gotten Silksong’d out of September (or at least their original planned release dates) due to the surprise release date. In a press release, Ysbryd Games named 2025 as a problem year for releasing an indie title because of volatile market conditions, and each indie title release can blur due to the staggering amount of overall releases in the backend of the year. But, Ysbryd Games specifically mentioned Hollow Knight: Silksong as a catalyst for the delay decision.

Ysbryd Games says it’s “Crueler still, that we should find out with such short notice that Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch just one day after our planned release for Demonschool,” adding “We don’t take this decision lightly. Demonschool’s release has been delayed before, and we want to be clear: there are no more delays after this point,” on the new November 19 release date. It appears other developers and publishers have followed suit, as TALEGAMES has delayed Faeland‘s full release due to also being Silksong’d.

Panik Arcade has also delayed their upcoming title, scheduled to launch on September 3, CloverPit, due to the surprisingly soon release date of Silksong. In a tweet, Panik Arcade says, “due to Silksong (can’t wait to play) launching just a day after CloverPit, we decided to delay our release,” and the new CloverPit release date is scheduled for September 26.

In a new update for the upcoming game, Baby Steps, from Getting Over It‘s creator Bennett Foddy, the title pays tribute to Silksong by showcasing a Hornet statue the protagonist takes a tumble off of, in a whole release date delay trailer because they’ve been Silksong’d. Devolver Digital released a statement that said, “Nate, the wary, onesie-donned protagonist of Bennett Foddy, Gabe Cuzzillo and Maxi Boch’s walking simulator Baby Steps, has stumbled after attempting to ascend his greatest challenge yet: launching the week after Silksong‘s surprise release date.” The team has made the decision to delay until the end of the month. That trailer can be seen below.

While Hollow Knight: Silksong is still scheduled to launch within the next 10 days, it remains to be seen whether any other titles will face a delay over it. Cronos: The New Dawn is still scheduled to launch on September 5. If that changes, then it may be safe to say even AAA titles aren’t safe from being Silksong’d.
