Despite its appearance in the Nintendo Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct, Team Cherry has reassured fans that Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be released on the original Switch.
Nintendo rocked the gaming world with its Nintendo Direct last week, which rolled out the red carpet for the Nintendo Switch 2. During the presentation, many launch titles were revealed for the platform, including the world premieres of Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World. But during a small portion of the showcase, Nintendo presented a “sizzle reel” highlighting what’s coming to the Switch 2. One of those titles was the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was finally given a concrete release window of 2025. The sizzle reel can be viewed below:
What caught fans off guard was Silksong’s appearance in the Switch 2 Direct, and not in the earlier Nintendo Switch Direct the week before. Fans questioned the decision, and thankfully, Team Cherry has now elaborated on the game’s inclusion in the second showcase.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced in 2019, and it remains a highly anticipated title for fans of the original Hollow Knight. Given Team Cherry’s reputation for keeping details about the game close to the chest, its inclusion — and the announcement of a release window — marked a significant moment.
Matthew Griffin, marketing and publishing lead for Team Cherry, addressed concerns about Switch 2 exclusivity in a post on X (formerly Twitter), reassuring fans that the title is still coming to the original Nintendo Switch. “Just to clarify… Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to both Nintendo Switch AND the Nintendo Switch 2,” he wrote.

Fans have voiced complaints online, particularly regarding the successor console’s pricing and the $80 premium for new games, especially on forums like Reddit. Still, most appear willing to purchase the new console at launch despite the concerns. For Hollow Knight fans who aren’t ready to upgrade, this update is welcome news.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated to launch in 2025, although no firm date has been set at the time of writing.
