The next title coming out of Guerrilla Games is set in the Horizon universe and features three-player co-op gameplay. It’s called Horizon Hunters Gathering.
The Game Director at Guerrilla Games, Arjan Bak, took to the official PlayStation Blog today to let the world know a new game set in the Horizon universe is coming to PS5 consoles, and it features three-player co-op gameplay. Introducing Horizon Hunters Gathering, a title where players team up as heroic Hunters to protect a world under threat from deadly machines. An official announcement trailer has also released, and it can be seen below.
Director Bak says, “With the very first ideas that shaped the world of Horizon, we dreamed of players hunting machines together,” adding, “Drawing on our experience from the Killzone multiplayer titles and the momentum of Horizon Zero Dawn, we set out to bring cooperative action into the Horizon franchise,” on the early days of development with Horizon Hunters Gathering. The co-op title has been conceptualized since the beginning.
Combat in Horizon Hunters Gathering is tactical, reactive, and skill-based, building on the tactical precision of the single-player Horizon games while embracing the dynamics of three-player team play. The foundation of Horizon Hunters Gathering revolves around a challenging, replayable hunt-based gameplay loop, of which two game modes were revealed. First, Machine Incursion is a high-intensity mission where waves of machines emerge from underground gateways, led by a formidable end boss. The second is Cauldron Descent, a longer, multi-stage trial in which ever-changing rooms push Hunters to adapt to survive. In both modes, brutal machine encounters, hidden doors that promise power and rewards await!
Both modes will be available in the upcoming closed playtest through the PlayStation Beta Program on PS5 and PC, and PlayStation (alongside Guerrilla Games) will be using player feedback to strengthen the experience. In Horizon Hunters Gathering, players choose from a roster of unique Hunters (each character comes with either melee or ranged playstyles) and select Hunter roles with a rogue-lite perk system to craft a build that best suits the squad. These characters will have their own storylines that are completely canonical to the overarching Horizon story, but the developers want to keep these details under wraps for now, bummer.
Horizon Hunters Gathering will be opening a closed beta test at the end of February. Fans can sign up for the test by first signing up for the PlayStation Beta Program, then marking their interest in the Horizon Hunters Gathering playtest. While this doesn’t guarantee entry into the beta, fans can play the title at the end of February if granted access.
