Report: Sony and NCSoft’s Horizon MMO Project Cancelled Amid Live-Service Shift

The Shift From Live Service

Sony's Planned Horizon Zero Dawn MMO May Have Now Been Cancelled, Report Says

On Tuesday, a new report hit the internet suggesting the previously planned Horizon Zero Dawn MMO in collaboration with NCSoft has been cancelled.

It has been less than a week since Sony announced the cancellation of two live service games. The first was a God of War live service-based title from Bluepoint Games (known for the Demon’s Souls remake on PS5), and another unknown title from Bend Studio (known for Day’s Gone). Marking the third major cancellation of a live service title in a week, a new report released on Tuesday suggesting Sony may have cut ties with the planned Horizon Zero Dawn MMO title with NCSoft.

The new report comes from Korea’s MTN (via ResetEra), and the report alleges “some of NCsoft’s new games and live games have received a notice of decision to stop development or service as a result of a feasibility review. Games under CBO Lee Seong-gu, including “Pantera,” “H,” and “J,” are reportedly included in the list, raising questions about whether development of “Pantera,” also known as “Raise Lineage M,” will actually be halted.”

NCSoft’s Project H has long been thought to be the Horizon Zero Dawn MMO since it was announced back in 2022 (by Korea’s MTN) along with a partnership agreement with Sony. The untitled game’s announcement at the time is said to have been internally code-named Project H, and the partnership agreement between Sony and NCSoft was created to “tentatively agreed to pursue a business partnership in which [NCsoft] will create new games using Sony’s promising game IP”. Since that business venture was formed, no other official announcements have landed.

NCSoft’s co-CEOs Kim Taek-jin and Park Byeong-m said, “If NC fails to show an inflection point in growth in 2025, many of the things we implemented through pain last year will go down the drain,” in an interview suggesting 2025 will be a “make-or-break” year for the company.

Neither NCSoft nor Sony has responded to the cancellation reports yet. Fans should take the news with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made.
