With CES 2018 here, HTC has taken the chance to show off their new Vive Pro at their press conference.

Pushing the hardware of the Vive beyond what was seen in the 2016 offering, Vive Pro, featuring higher resolution display, build in headphones, much like what is seen on the Oculus Rift, along with dual front-facing cameras.

The new version of the Vive will have a 2800 x1600 (3K) resolution display, pushing it well ahead of the 1080 x 1200 seen on the original HTC Vive. This will push the potential of higher resolution textures and should help reduce the screen door effect seen with most of the current VR headsets.

As with the first iteration of the Vive, the Vive Pro will rely on a high-end computer to power the visuals at the core of the VR headset. To ensure not to fragment the already complicated VR market, the Vive pro will maintain compatibility with previous Vive base station and will work with previous Steam VR Games.

“There’s a clear need in the VR market for a premium VR experience with high resolution display, integrated audio and the best components available today in a headset,” said Daniel O’Brien, GM U.S., VIVE. “Vive Pro offers an immediate upgrade for both VR enthusiasts and enterprises that want to utilize the best VR experience.”

If that was not enough, HTC also revealed the new Vive Wireless Adapter, an accessory that hooked into the new Vive Pro and the original HTC Vive, that will allow the headset to connect to a nearby PC without the need of wires. This new adapter will be the first official HTC adapter and will use the Intel’s WiGig technology to send data seamlessly over the air.

HTC has slated the wireless adapter is slated for later in Q3 2018. No price or firm date has been released for the HTC Vive Pro
