According to Mp1st, Insomniac’s Wolverine game is slated to release next year.
Rumours continue to spread about Insomniac’s next game title, but official news has stalled on the mutant with adamantium claws. According to Mp1st, Insomniac’s Wolverine game is slated to release next year. The other possibility is that the long-awaited Venom spin-off game could be the 2026 release fans have been waiting for.
The Wolverine game was originally announced back in September 2021, which was around the same time Spider-Man 2 was also announced. While Insomniac talked about how the Wolverine game would be in the same Spider-Man game universe, it was billed as a standalone title. Since the supposed Wolverine game under development was first announced in 2021, nothing has been officially shown from the game.
Speculation continues to grow on the Wolverine game release, especially after Insomniac’s tragic hack in December 2023. This event saw playable builds of the game spread online, and hundreds of documents about the game’s release date leaked. Based on Mp1st’s article, which has a history of reporting accurate information about unreleased video games, the Wolverine game is currently scheduled for next year. In the same report, it’s claimed that a spin-off game focused on Venom is planned to follow Wolverine’s release.

2023’s Spider-Man 2 featured an extended sequence that saw the player play as Venom, complete with a bespoke move-set and movement abilities, leading many at the time to assume that a spin-off game based on the character was coming. Even Insomniac senior narrative director Jon Paquette talked about how the studio would listen to what the fans wanted, in terms of spin-offs to the main series. The Wolverine spin-off was also no exception.
In 2024, Insomniac announced there would be no additional story content for Spider-Man 2. However, news of three planned DLCs was already leaked at this point, following the leaked roadmap. These three DLCs were supposed to be centered on the villains Carnage, Beetle, and a villain tied to the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Despite this being the original plan, the company released the game’s PC port and stated that there would be no additional content coming.
Mp1st’s sources stated that the Wolverine game and Venom spin-off are actively under development. The article stated the Venom story would have Eddie Brock as the protagonist, given what happened to the other symbiote user from Spider-Man 2. This could rule out Flash Thompson donning the symbiote. Mp1st goes into rumours about Cletus Kasady returning as Carnage, and hints that Insomniac is working to include Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 in one of their upcoming projects. Hopefully, the Spider-Man game devs provide an update in 2026.
