Warner Bros. dropped a new bombshell trailer on the DC Comics hopeful today, and in the sequel Joker: Folie À Deux, Harley Quinn and Arthur Fleck promise chaos.
Since rumoured way back in 2022 the sequel for Todd Phillips’ 2019 film that was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, even scoring one for actor Joaquin Phoenix, Joker: Folie À Deux has unleashed a new trailer today. The trailer gives audiences globally the first official confirmation that the upcoming sequel will indeed feature heavy musical elements, by showcasing a featured song in the film, “For Once In My Life” by Frank Sinatra, but won’t tone down the gratuitous violence the ‘clown prince of crime’ is known for. The trailer can be seen below, featuring Phoenix and Gaga in full character.
Joker: Folie À Deux starts up where the 2019 film left off, with an imprisoned Arthur Fleck after the riots that alluded to having killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. While imprisoned at Arkham and awaiting his trial for the crimes he committed, Fleck chances upon ‘true love’ when he meets the equally unhinged Harley Quinn (played by Lady Gaga) and finds music in his unfortunate circumstance. The film has an all-star cast of Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey, with Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie from the first film.
It’s worth mentioning the Joker film from 2019, and this sequel will not be featured as part of James Gunn’s new DC Studios film universe and will exist separately. The same goes for the Suicide Squad films and the existing DC Universe of films. Luckily for fans, Warner Bros. has also disclosed a release date with the trailer. Joker: Folie À Deux will arrive in theatres globally on October 4.
