Okay, Okay! I'll Stop!

Jurassic World Evolution 3 Devs Stopped Generative AI Because Fans Bullied Them

Since receiving gratuitous backlash regarding the usage of generative AI, the developers of Jurassic World Evolution 3 announced they’ve stopped using it.

It has been weeks since Frontier Development announced the third game in the Jurassic Evolution franchise, Jurassic World Evolution 3, at SGF 2025. Since then, fans have kept their eyes peeled on the announcement trailer and noticed in-game scientist portraits had been made using generative AI. The trailer, as seen at SGF 2025, can be seen below.

Steam recently instituted a requirement earlier in June for devs to disclose whether their Steam-released title uses generative AI or not, and the latest Jurassic World Evolution indeed confessed to using the tech. Steam says, “The survey now includes a new AI disclosure section, where you’ll need to describe how you are using AI in the development and execution of your game,” and Frontier Development’s Jurassic World Evolution 3 title disclaimed that it falls into the descriptor. As of this posting, “Artificial Intelligence” is still found on the “popular user-defined tags” for the title.

A particularly damning post from a fan on Steam Forums explains how the decision is “pathetic” and says the dev team has a “lack of self awareness and appallingly low iq” in the post. Fans have flocked to the post to lambast the decision by the developers, with some fans calling Frontier Developments’ usage of the portraits “lazy.” Other fans have claimed Jurassic World Evolution 2 did the same thing, but the Steam page listing for the 2021 release doesn’t state anywhere that AI has been used in development. It’s possible developers don’t need to disclose the use of AI in already released software on the platform (it’s not mentioned in the disclosure guidelines on Steam).

Frontier Developments has responded to the post on Jurassic World Evolution 3, saying, “Thanks for your feedback on this topic. We have opted to remove the use of generative AI for scientist portraits within Jurassic World Evolution 3.” So while fans were initially outraged by the developer’s decision, they have since declared they will remove the generated assets.
