It’s official. After months of fan speculation and hopeful casting decisions, Nintendo and Sony’s live-action The Legend of Zelda film has found its casting choices for Zelda and Link.

After the live-action Legend of Zelda movie was officially announced in November 2023, there has been virtually no news regarding the film. But that didn’t stop fans from working up a sweat on internet forums with speculation regarding the film’s casting decisions. In May 2025, rumours spread regarding the casting choice for Princess Zelda, and speculation led to an industry insider claiming Euphoria‘s Hunter Schaefer was ‘being seriously considered for the role.’ Today, all speculation has ended as Link and Zelda have been officially cast.

Back in June 2025, out of nowhere, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto made a quick post on X (formerly Twitter) detailing the film’s sudden production change. The movie was initially set to arrive on March 26, 2027, and will now arrive on May 7th, 2027. Miyamoto said then, “For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”

That fan patience has now paid off, as Shigeru Miyamoto has taken to Nintendo’s official X account, once again, to update fans on The Legend of Zelda’s live-action adaptation. The post reads, “This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.” Miyamoto’s original post can be seen below.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason will be Link and Princess Zelda respectively, and both cast members in The Legend of Zelda are of English descent and have less than 10 film and TV credits according to their respective IMDb pages. This may be by design. Allowing less famous actors to embody immediately recognizable roles in gaming could add to the film’s immersive aspect.

The Legend of Zelda live-action film is scheduled to hit theatres on May 7, 2027.
