Developer Polaris Quest announced Light of Motiram earlier in the week, and after the 16-minute gameplay video, fans have dubbed it a ‘Horizon clone’.
Tencent Games and subsidiary Polaris Quest have pulled back the curtain on their latest open-world title, Light of Motiram, with an extended 16-minute long look at gameplay. The internet has been quick to dub the title a ‘Horizon clone’ due to the apparent inspirations from the PlayStation Studios IP, Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, even down to how the ‘mechanimals’ in the title look and behave. The 16-minute video can be seen below (thanks to Gematsu), and fans will be quick to notice that this title allows the player to recruit and tame animals, which the Horizon series (outside the four mounts present in Horizon Forbidden West) does not.
There are notable differences between what’s presented in the 16-minute video of Light of Motiram and the Horizon series. First is the ability to build shelters, as the Sony franchise doesn’t let players brave Horizon with buildable structures (at least not yet). The main difference, however, is the complete co-op gameplay functionality. Seeing as Light of Motiram is billed on Steam as an MMO title, it’s a far cry from the single-player experience Sony offers with Horizon.

This hasn’t stopped fans from running to Reddit, crying foul on the new title. In a Reddit post titled “Tencent announced Light of Motiram and it looks pretty familiar…,” fans have pointed out numerous similarities between the Horizon series and Motiram. User Jazzlike-curve142 said, “They even stole the damn font. That’s just crazy,” regarding the newly announced title. Other users claim they were misled, with one stating, “I saw the trailer with no context a few minutes ago. Legitimately thought it was an official Horizon spinoff” in response to the announcement.
Whether Sony has a problem with the new title remains to be seen, as no representative has made any statement on the new MMO. Light of Motiram is set to launch on iOS, PC and PlayStation 5 at a TBD date.
