Late Monday, Valve pulled back the curtain on a new colourway for their portable PC and introduced the limited edition white Steam Deck OLED fans can purchase this November.
The upcoming new colourway for Valve’s portable PC will launch on Nov. 18, and fans can buy the device in limited supply. After nearly three years of teasers, the White Steam Deck will be available globally wherever the original or OLED model is sold. Consumers interested in the device only need to have purchased from Valve before November 2024. Valve has stated this will be a very limited run: “As this is a limited edition release, we will not be making more of this particular design. Once we are sold out, we will be sold out.” Pictures shared by Valve show the new model and colourway adopt the orange power button from the initial OLED release.
Interestingly enough, the initial Steam Deck OLED came in a dark colourway, and now they’ve released a limited edition white variant, but ROG Ally, the other portable PC (and main Steam Deck competitor), initially released in white and now has the ROG Ally X in black. The White Steam Deck OLED has all the same specs as the Steam Deck OLED 1TB model but in white and grey. It includes an exclusive white carrying case and white microfiber cleaning cloth.
In a statement, Valve detailed: “Last year, we released a smoky translucent limited edition Steam Deck OLED as an experiment to find out if there was interest in alternative colourways (there was!). This is our second experiment along those lines,” adding, “The difference this time (aside from the colour!) is that we’re able to ship the Limited Edition White to all regions where Steam Deck already ships.” Valve will use data obtained from consumers from this release to inform future colourway offerings.
