Since Magic: The Gathering revealed the next MTG x Avatar: The Last Airbender Universes Beyond set, fans have been clamouring for more information, and today they have it with a slew of new cards, artwork and mechanics to check out.
As 2025 surges forward, Wizards of the Coast continues to generate unseen excitement for Magic: the Gathering. While the Universes Beyond – Final Fantasy set is the best-selling set of all time, and Edge of Eternities is still in its peak of relevancy, WOTC looks to the future Universes Beyond set, Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Like every other set release, MTG | Avatar: The Last Airbender introduces new (and returning) mechanics to the tabletops of Magic: the Gathering. While previous set spoiler seasons have given fans a taste of what the bonus sheet would look like (with Edge of Eternities: Stellar Sights, and Final Fantasy: Through The Ages), WOTC’s reveal today is all about Avatar, mechanics, and multiple art treatments for card designs that fans of the series will be thrilled with.

It’s worth mentioning that there will be an extended ‘bonus sheet’ for Avatar (under the Eternal-Legal set code: TLE rather than the main set’s TLA), but none of the cards have been revealed so far, and neither have potential special guests that have been known to be included with each set, which started with The Lost Caverns of Ixalan.
Magic: The Gathering – New & Returning Mechanics in Avatar: The Last Airbender

Waterbending – Some spells and abilities have the keyword “waterbend” as part of their costs. For example, the activated ability of Aang’s Iceberg requires that you waterbend 3, which means the player can tap artifacts and creatures to help pay the cost, or use old-fashioned mana to activate the abilities. The choice is the players.
Earthbending – Earthbending is a keyword action like waterbending. Like how Earthbenders turn the terrain into weapons in Avatar: The Last Airbender, players can do the same with the help of spells and abilities that instruct them to earthbend in Magic: The Gathering. Earthbending Lesson, which turns a target land you control into a 0/0 land creature with haste, then puts four +1/+1 counters on that creature-land. When that now-creature dies or is exiled, it returns as a tapped non-creature land.

Airbending – Airbending is another new keyword action that helps players control the board without aggression. When you airbend a permanent, you exile it or flicker it out. As long as the target card remains exiled, its owner may cast it for two mana rather than its listed mana cost. While Appa notably only airbends your permanents, it’s possible airbending can be done to an opponent’s permanents. This ability’s power is increased by using synergy that helps when playing cards from exile.
Firebending – Firebending is a keyword ability that turns your aggression into power. When a creature with firebending X attacks, you add X red mana where X is equal to the creature’s power. That red mana doesn’t go away until the end of the combat step, allowing players to ramp up their assault with instant speed cards quickly.
