Today, Wizards of the Coast revealed more of what’s behind the curtain for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering x FINAL FANTASY crossover.
Yesterday, IGN exclusively revealed the upcoming biodome of Commander Decks that will land in the planes of Magic: The Gathering when the new FINAL FANTASY-based universe’s Beyond set launches in June. The box art and face commanders for each of the four commander decks can be seen below, courtesy of IGN.
Wizards of the Coast continued to strike while the iron was hot and revealed more cards coming to the crossover expansion, including Saga Creatures, double-faced cards, and more. Wizards of the Coast and FINAL FANTASY promise the upcoming set features the largest collection of FINAL FANTASY artwork ever in a single game, drawing from across the entire franchise starting with the first game and including the latest FINAL FANTASY XVI launch. First, Magic: The Gathering x FINAL FANTASY is getting a full expansion treatment, including Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks, Collector’s Edition Commander decks, Bundles, and Gift Edition Bundles. All cards released (aside from certain commander cards) will be Standard format legal, and MTG: Arena will be receiving the full expansion as well. Special reprinted cards like Yuffie Kisaragi and Dragon of Mount Gulg will be on brand Magic: The Gathering reprints of “Yuriko, Tiger’s Shadow” and “Ancient Copper Dragon.”
On top of the normal format releases, Wizards of the Coast has announced there will be three special Secret Lair drops to coincide with the official expansion launch. Special artwork treatments will also be available in the set, showcasing the entire history of FINAL FANTASY portrayed on MTG cards in a Bonus Sheet for the set, which features existing artwork from the FINAL FANTASY series. Iconic FINAL FANTASY artists such as 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO and 野村哲也/TETSUYA NOMURA will be prominently featured.
