Magic: The Gathering Joins Forces With Marvel in Universes Beyond, with a 5 Hero Secret Lair!

Friday, Hasbro and Marvel have joined forces to bring Marvel Superheroes to Magic: the Gathering. The limited five-hero set will feature iconic Marvel characters entering a new multiverse, the planes of MTG.

At NYCC 2024 this Friday, Magic: The Gathering hosted a panel featuring key figures behind the card game and Marvel to announce a new Secret Lair releasing at the beginning of November. For the first time, iconic Marvel superheroes will appear on Magic: The Gathering cards, complete with functionality that reflects each hero’s origins and abilities in the Marvel universe. The Secret Lair Superdrop will include Marvel Superhero cards featuring Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, Wolverine, and Storm.

That’s not all—each hero drop comes with a supporting four-card set, reimagining MTG card favourites as Marvel variants. And Marvel isn’t stopping with just five heroes. Magic: The Gathering will feature a larger Spider-Man-focused drop sometime in 2025, also announced at NYCC 2024. The first drop is designed for players to embrace their inner hero and dominate the Commander playstyle with heroic intervention and a new creature designation that echoes heroism: the Hero.

Magic: The Gathering x Marvel Universes Beyond SecretLair Inclusions

Secret Lair x Marvel’s Captain America – Justice, liberty, and honour are values of the First Avenger, and these values can now be found emblazoned on Magic: the Gathering cards. Wizards of the Coast and Marvel have even sneakily changed the format of the Jeskai colourway, where it is normally found in the colour order red, blue and white, Captain America sports the stars-and-stripes designation of Red, White and Blue to coincide with his origins, and no Captain America would be complete without his shield equipment which arrives as a Sword of War and Peace, but as the Vibranium stars-and-stripes cladden shield. This Secret Lair drop features card art by Anthony Devine, Howard Lyon, Ryan Pancoast, Livia Prima, and Chris Rahn.

Secret Lair x Marvel’s Iron Man – Tony Stark has done it all, but now he joins a new universe, Magic: The Gathering. This drop features sleek art including five cutting-edge cards, led by an all-new legendary Iron Man hero card, that will put you behind the visor of one of the core four Avengers who doubles as a human and an artifact for proof that Tony Stark does have a heart. A Commander’s Plate featuring the armour of the Mark VI (his most famous considering the MCU) suit, and an Arc Reactor donning the card features of a Sol Ring just happens organically. This drop features card art by Bud Cook, Justyna Dura, Lie Setiawan, Anna Steinbauer, Marco Teixeira.

Secret Lair x Marvel’s Wolverine – This deadly drop combines Wolverine’s mutant regeneration in more ways than one, with the healing factor baked in to his own unique card including a five ferocious card drop inspired by the X-Men’s most relentless member. Grab this drop and the bones of your next Commander deck will be made of adamantium, including a The Ozolith card stylistically transformed into the Weapon-X origins, the Adamantium Bonding Tank. This drop features card art by Victor Adame Minguez, Alexander Mokhov, Anna Podedworna, Eliz Roxs.

Secret Lair x Marvel’s Storm – X-Men’s Storm is coming, and in this five-card drop, she can be seen in many of her outfits from all instances in the Marvel Universe including her mohawk phase made popular in X-Men ’97. This drop features stunning artwork of Marvel’s Storm across five fierce cards, including the mutant herself. Fans can summon the fury of the elements and turn the X-Men’s most electric leader, including new card art for Jeska’s Will, and new support for the Storm card mechanic. This drop features card art by Miguel Mercado, Francisco Miyara, Kevin Sidharta, Magali Villeneuve, Pauline Voss.

Secret Lair x Marvel’s Black Panther – The last drop features the alter ego of warrior king T’Challa, bringing the power of Vibranium to bear across five majestic cards, including the king Black Panther himself. An on-brand token of a human warrior has also been included, to keep Wakandan player tokens outfitted like their king. This drop features card art by Tyler Jacobson, Jake Murray, Ernanda Souza, Swayart, and Salvatorre Zee Yazzie
