The upcoming Marvel’s Avengers films — Doomsday and Secret Wars — have been delayed by a significant margin, meaning Wars will now launch at the end of 2027.
It’s official, both Avengers feature films: Doomsday and Secret Wars have been moved from their previous respective May 2026 & 2027 release dates to December of the same release launch years. Avengers: Doomsday moves from May 1 to December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars shifts from May 27, 2027 to December 17, 2027. According to Deadline insiders, these are two of the biggest films ever made and the delays allow Marvel more time to fine-tune the “gargantuan” vision from the two films.
Before this announcement, the latest news revealed about Doomsday was a then-viral YouTube video from a month ago which only revealed names on the back of casting chairs confirming actors for the massive film. That video can be seen in a much more toned-down version below (with a cameo from Robert Downey Jr.).
While insiders gave a reason for the film delays, it’s worth noting Marvel has seen success when releasing films in the Holiday corridor. Spider-Man: No Way Home was launched in December 2021, and that film has made nearly $2 billion worldwide (according to BoxOfficeMojo) since it was released in 2021. Interestingly enough, the delays for both Marvel Avengers films put the next Spider-Man film in a strange spot.

The next Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was previously scheduled to launch in between both Avengers films. Tom Holland was notably absent from the Doomsday casting chair video, and fans have speculated he would play a big role in the Avengers films on forums like Reddit. While no concrete reason has been given for both Marvel’s Avengers film delays, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will now launch in December 2026 & 2027 respectively.
