Marvel Rivals, still coming in hot off its astounding release week player numbers, is already adding its first time event, Winter Celebration.
The snowy festival brings a host of new cosmetics and changes to the game, on top of what looks to be a delightfully fun new mode. Here’s everything you need to know about Marvel Rivals‘ Winter Celebration.
New Mode and When It Ends
Winter Festival officially kicks off on December 19 at 11pm PST, and it will run until January 9, 2025 at 8am PST.
The biggest addition in the Winter Festival is the brand-new mode called “Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival.” This mode has two teams of four made up entirely of Jeff the Landshark – with the goal being to paint the entire map in your teams color using Jeff’s water spray. That’s right, it’s basically Splatoon but with Jeff.
Considering he’s already turned into the de-facto mascot of the game, it’s no surprise the big focus is on Jeff.
Free Rewards
Winter Celebration adds a handful of winter-y costumes to the game, and Jeff’s is the only one that’s entirely free – if you play enough. Playing the new mode awards you with Gold and Silver Frost, which you can redeem on a kind of Battle Pass for rewards.
There are five rewards to redeem, and you’ll need to unlock each in sequence, with the very last one being Jeff’s Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume. Each day has a handful of missions that award Frost for playing the new mode. Here’s an example of what the current missions are, but keep in mind they’ll change daily.
- Win three matches in Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival – 1x Gold Frost
- Win two matches in Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival with your team’s decoration rate above 40% – 1x Gold Frost
- Complete five matches in Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival – 3x Silver Frost
- Defeat 15 enemies in Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival – 3x Silver Frost
You’ll need to play for at least a few days, and actually complete those missions, if you want to unlock everything.
Paid Extras
In addition to the Jeff items, there are new costumes added for other characters that you can purchase. Currently Rocket Racoon and Groot have festive costumes. These costumes run 1600 units, which is roughly $16, but come in bundles with sprays, nameplates, etc.
Winter costumes for Venom and Magik will also be added later in the event.
Marvel Rivals is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
