Marvel Rivals Is Getting a PvE Mode, and It Has Zombies

Marvel Rivals is about to get one of its wildest updates yet, with the game’s very first PvE mode. And even better, you and your friends will be fighting off hordes of zombies.

In collaboration with the Marvel Zombies animated series on Disney+, Marvel Rivals will be rolling out the new mode just in time for Halloween, on October 23, for all platforms. There’s currently no word on whether the mode is only available for a limited time or when it might end.

This is a survival-focused mode where five players team up to try and make it through the hordes, using a specific set of characters. Teams will get to play as Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff the Landshark, and The Punisher. Ultimately, if you can survive long enough, you’ll even get to go up against Zombie Namor and the Queen of the Dead.

“We’ve also given each hero some unique abilities,” says Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo. “Charge through the hordes as Jeff, slice and dice with Blade’s bouncing Moon Blades, shock zombies with Thor in his persistent Awakened state, or go berserk as Magik in her unlimited Darkchild form. Showcase your epic combat skills against the zombie swarms and tough bosses!”

It’s a pretty novel idea that should test teamwork in Marvel Rivals in a new way, and hopefully lead to more instances of PvE content — something that can really help give hero shooters like Marvel Rivals some extra longevity.

Blade was fairly recently added to Marvel Rivals back in August, and he’s the 41st hero in the game. He’s a versatile Duelist who focuses on attacking at close range, but can back off to medium range if needed. The most recent character added to Marvel Rivals, earlier in October, is Daredevil.

Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
