With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater just around the corner, reviews and other info has gone live about the remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3. And one of the more interesting tidbits is that one of the most iconic moments of the original game, the Guy Savage nightmare, has actually been developed by acclaimed action studio Platinum Games, announced on the game’s official X account.
If you’ve played Metal Gear Solid 3 you likely know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you haven’t, Guy Savage is essentially the game’s biggest Easter Egg. Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, at one point Naked Snake is imprisoned, and if you save your game while in the prison Snake talks to Paramedic about Dracula. If you quit the game and reload your save you’ll be in Snake’s nightmare, playing a hack-and-slash section where you cleave through vampiric creatures like it’s Castlevania.
It was one of the biggest surprises of the PS2 game, and Delta completely reimagines and amps up the sequence. This is especially notable as it marks Platinum Games’ return to the series, following the released of Metal Gear Rising: Reveangance, the Raiden-focused action game from 2013.

Interestingly, Guy Savage is actually the most overhauled part of Delta, sporting a completely new graphical style and aesthetic. It clearly looks more Platinum-esque than the Castlevania-centric style of the original.
As an added bonus, Guy Savage is basically its own mode now, and once you beat the game you can access it directly from Delta’s main menu.
Outside of this instance, Metal Gear Solid Delta is a mostly straight remake of the original PS2 game. The story and voice acting are exactly the same, while the game has received a visual overhaul, quality-of-life updates, and a retooled third-person gameplay mode.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches on August 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
