Microsoft Announces Xbox Copilot for Gaming AI Tool To Help Finish Games

Phil Spencer just announced Xbox Copilot, a new AI tool that could change the way we play games.

The new venture is being delivered as an “AI-driven sidekick is designed to be your personalized gaming companion, helping you get to your favourite games faster, coaching you to improve your skills, and connecting you better with your friends and communities.” Xbox Copilot for Gaming was announced today on the official Xbox podcast and posted by Xbox head Phil Spencer on the Bluesky platform.

Excited for Xbox Insiders to try out Copilot for Gaming on mobile very soon. This experience puts players at the center–helping you pick up where you left off, learn new strategies, and connect more easily with friends. Learn more on the latest Xbox Podcast: youtu.be/ZoUDVNjDUSw

Xbox Insiders will be the first to test the new software. During the official Xbox podcast, the team demonstrated the software being used in Minecraft and Age of Empires IV as examples of how Xbox Copilot can assist players.

The early prototype of Copilot for Gaming included an in-game assistance feature that lets players ask for help while still in the game. In one example, a Minecraft player collected wood and asked Copilot, “What can I do with that?” Copilot responded like an experienced Minecraft player, suggesting the wood be used to craft planks.

Interestingly, Copilot for Gaming even gave Overwatch 2 team balance advice before the player selected a character. In this example, the player’s favourite character, Echo, was already chosen by someone else, so consulting Copilot led to the advice to pick Cassidy. Copilot also provided reasoning, saying, “You’ve done great with him on this map before.”

While Xbox assures users that Copilot will be “completely optional,” newer PCs like the latest Predator Helios Neo 16 laptop come with Copilot+ pre-installed. It remains to be seen whether users will choose to keep the software or remove it after it is automatically included.

An early preview version of Copilot for Gaming on mobile will be available to Xbox Insiders soon, giving them a chance to test the service and provide feedback. This will offer consumers a closer look at how it will work before its full release.
