Microsoft Unveils Age of Empires IV

Microsoft Unveils Age of Empires IV 1

Age of Empires IV has been officially announced via a new trailer that just dropped.

Microsoft took the opportunity to announce that a New Age of Empires title is in development for PC. The just-announced Age of Empires IV is being worked on by the developers behind the Dawn of War series, Relic Entertainment.

The last Age of Empires title to come out was way back in 2005, which makes the announcement of Age of Empires IV very exciting indeed—especially for longtime fans of the beloved strategy series.

Not much information for the game is currently out. The trailer only features concept art for the upcoming game, which illustrates scenes from the height of the Roman Empire to the likes of Japanese Samurai.

The very first Age of Empires game debuted in 1997. The original Age of Empires was developed by the now-defunct Ensemble Studios, who went on to make more entries into the series in addition to games like Halo Wars for the Xbox 360.

The company, along with Age of Empires, was acquired by Microsoft in 2001.

Age of Empires IV may mark the first numbered entry into the series since 2005, but Microsoft has kept Age of Empires relevant over the years by releasing numerous smaller games based on the renowned franchise. Some games in the Age of Empires legacy include several mobile titles such as World Domination and Castle Siege.

Prior to the announcement of Age of Empires IV, Microsoft announced that Age of Empires II and III would be receiving a definitive edition in addition to the already announced remaster of the first game.

No release date has been announced at this time regarding the upcoming title, but those interested in learning more are encouraged to visit the games official website.
