Monster Hunter Wilds Is Already Capcom's Biggest PC Launch Ever

Monster Hunter Wilds is already having a gargantuan release date, and that’s based on the Steam numbers alone.

At the time of writing, Monster Hunter Wilds currently has over 1.2 million players currently in-game, with today’s peak sitting even higher than that at 1.3 million. That’s after the game has been out for just over 12 hours, and also means Monster Hunter has beaten the first day player numbers for both Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring.

It also means Wilds is Capcom’s best-selling PC release ever, and by a wide margin. Monster Hunter World topped out at an all-time peak of 334,000, so Wilds has more than quadrupled that number. It’s easy to say the launch of Wilds has already been an unmitigated success, and that’s before factoring sales over the weekend as well as console numbers.

But there is a bit of a downside to all this, as Wilds user review score on Steam has been taking a bit of a hit. With over 10 thousand reviews it’s currently sitting as Mixed, with scores of players noting poor optimization and performance. Some are even saying the performance is worse than the recent beta, and doesn’t match the benchmark .Those are, hopefully, things that can be smoothed out sooner rather than later with updates.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a pretty massive shift for the franchise — with a much larger focus on story and streamlining a lot of the hunting and preparation elements. In our review we said, “Monster Hunter Wilds may very well set the standard for not just how Monster Hunter plays but also how it tells its story.”

The story kicks off when the Hunting Guild discovers a young boy named Nata at the edge of the Forbidden Lands. An expedition is launched to discover his village and reunite him with his people, uncovering a wealth of dangerous monsters and world-shaking secrets.

Monster Hunters Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
