It has been four months since Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds launched, and today marks the second free update announcement bringing extra content to the title.
The Forbidden Lands have just gotten more wild. Capcom has announced that they’re releasing yet another free title update for Monster Hunter Wilds during their Capcom Spotlight Digital Showcase this morning, bringing new weaponry, new missions, a new support hunter and of course, new titan-sized creatures to bring down. The update comes with a trailer showcasing everything Hunters are likely to encounter, and it can be seen below.
The Monster Hunter Wilds free title update brings two massive new creatures to hunt. The Leviathan, Lagiacrus has appeared in The Forbidden Lands, the massive serpent is a master of the sea and boils the surrounding water by emitting powerful currents of electricity to maim the player. This challenge can be confronted by reaching HR 31, and after clearing the “A World Turned Upside Down” main mission, and the “Forest Doshaguma” side mission.
Monster Hunter Wilds second free title update introduces hunters to a second hunt, the flying wyvern, Seregios. Seregios is an acrobatic aerial monster that fires sharp blade scales inflicting bleeding status on hunters, forcing even the most seasoned hunters to juggle battling a worthy adversary and using replenishment items. Missions to hunt Seregios are made available for hunters at HR 31 or above and the prerequisite is hunters need to have cleared the “A World Turned Upside Down” main mission.

The free title update 2 for Monster Hunter Wilds also improves upon character customization, introducing the new Layered Weapon system, which lets you use the look of any weapon while keeping the stats and abilities of another. Each Layered Weapon can be unlocked by crafting the final weapon in that weapon’s upgrade tree. Artian Weapons can also be used as layered weapons by fully reinforcing a Rarity 8 Artian weapon and plugging in the layered design. As a last note, for weapons that change appearance when upgraded, Layered Weapons gives players the ability to use any design in that weapon’s upgrade tree.
The free title update comes at a time when Monster Hunter Wilds is receiving an influx of negative reviews on the Steam platform, with fans lambasting the title for performance issues and the lack of new monsters and endgame content. Fans have taken to Reddit to complain about these issues, as well as mention how the title’s performance has worsened since launch.
What was once a positive reception has skewed far into the red with recent Steam reviews citing an “Overwhelmingly Negative” opinion with over 13,000 fans leaving an impression. A Reddit comment reads “Can’t argue with performance. I just stopped playing because of all the frame drops and crashing” which was responded to by “Same Here.”
The Monster Hunter Wilds second free title update can’t come a moment sooner for irate fans, and it launches on June 30. More information can be found on the official PlayStation Blog post regarding the free update.
