Mortal Shell II Shows Off Updated Gameplay And More In New Showcase

Hermit Crabs May be Pros

After its official announcement back in June of 2025, the sequel to Mortal Shell, Mortal Shell II, now has a full 12-minute gameplay reveal along with a ton of new information.

The gameplay showcase showcased many of the new parts of the Soulslike that were changed since the first one. One of the most notable additions to Mortal Shell II is a compact open-world map, which is a major departure from the original, where you could only explore the expanses of Fullgrim. In the showcase, we see the shells open to reveal what are presumably fast-travel points, and we explore regions ranging from snowy landscapes to arid mountains.

We see the game’s iconic shells in action in the showcase, each with its own playstyle, carving a path across the land. Three shells are available to play as: The Acolyte Tiel, The Venerable Eredrim, and The Broodseeker Proxima. As in the first game, you will naturally come across the shells of the venerable warriors and awaken them to use their experiences to your advantage. It remains to be seen what impact these shells have on the game’s overarching story or on character interaction in general.

The publisher, Playstack, has also announced the MORTAL SHELL II: REVERED EDITION. This physical edition of the game will come with an artbook, a steelbook, and a selection of prints that come wrapped in a collector’s box. Sadly enough for Xbox players, this edition is only available to PlayStation players on the PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are currently available for both the REVERED edition and the standard edition at participating retailers, and as a bonus, those who do pre-order will get the Obsidian and Skeletal Harbinger skins to use in-game.

The revered edition will launch on PlayStation 5 later in 2026, coinciding with the worldwide digital release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
