On Tuesday, Nintendo announced that its My Nintendo Gold Points system will be discontinued after eight years as the company’s purchase bonus program.
After nine years as the bonus for Nintendo Online purchases, Nintendo is ending its My Nintendo Gold Points system. The company made the announcement on its website, stating that fans will still be able to redeem points on purchases made before the cut-off point as long as checkout is completed through its digital storefront. The My Nintendo program began in March 2016, replacing the Club Nintendo point redemption system.
The My Nintendo announcement reads, “As of 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025, it will no longer be possible to earn My Nintendo Gold Points when purchasing digital content” going further saying “When you have pre-ordered digital content before 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025. Any pre-orders for digital content made before 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025 will earn Gold Points, even if the payment will be processed later. Gold Points for these pre-orders will be awarded by the day after the payment is processed.”

Physical purchases will be treated similarly. Consumers will be able to redeem My Nintendo gold points on physical software purchases for titles that were released on or before March 24, 2025. Software that falls into this category is still eligible to earn Gold Points, even if the game is purchased after March 24, 2025. The caveat is that the title will only be eligible for one year following the original release date. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launched in September 2024, so the cut-off point for gold point redemption will be September 2025.
Nintendo could be shifting from gold points with the impending launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, so those who haven’t redeemed their points yet should do so before March 24.
