The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches tomorrow, and as the console gets out into the wild a day-one patch has been deployed adding free updates to software.
There’s a day one patch that’s making the rounds to all Nintendo Switch 2 consoles today, and it adds key features explained during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct back in the beginning of April. While the update adds functionality to the console, it also brings free updates Nintendo promised users for select Nintendo Switch games. Updates to existing titles include increased visual fidelity, improved gameplay, frame rate improvements, additional feature support and more.

Unlike every other Nintendo home console, the Nintendo Switch 2 is without any critical reviews as of launch. With the exception of the previous hands-on preview events, users buying the successor Nintendo console are going in blind so a day-one patch is a notable development. Especially considering the update adds functions like eShop access, and various other features like using the new microSD Express cards with the console.
Aside from console functionality, listed below are the original Switch software titles receiving upgrades from the free day one patch update.
Nintendo Switch 2 Free Title Upgrades

- ARMS
- Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- Game Builder Garage
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
The update is essential for Nintendo Switch 2 owners to use functionality already revealed for the console. Linking the console to the Nintendo smartphone app cannot be completed unless the day one patch is installed, so fans should queue that update as soon as unboxing occurs. Nintendo’s servers might be a little busy over the next few days.
