On Wednesday, Nintendo has finally confirmed a Nintendo Direct that WILL include details surrounding the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
For the past year, Nintendo has been actively avoiding saying anything regarding the upcoming successor console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Today, that changes with the reveal that Nintendo is deploying a Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, and yes, it will reveal further details about the Switch 2. Like other Nintendo Direct showcases, this one will land at 9:00 a.m. EST on April 2 (to possibly avoid fans confusing reveals as April Fool’s Day jokes). The official announcement was made on Nintendo’s X (formerly Twitter) account, which can be seen below.
The past three Nintendo Direct presentations included a note stating that they would not feature information about the Nintendo Switch 2 console. This time, however, the Nintendo Direct is focused entirely on the new console and will likely showcase some of the software coming to the system.
Fans on X, commenting directly under the post, believe that at the very least, Nintendo will announce the new console’s release date during the presentation. Many also speculate that the company will reveal more information about Mario Kart 9.

Although today fans received an official announcement confirming the Direct, Nintendo also revealed the Direct back when they gave fans an official first look at the new Switch 2’s design. At that time, Nintendo confirmed many massively leaked details before the reveal, including reports of magnetized joy-con controllers.
So far, aside from a potential first look at Mario Kart 9 and confirmation that the console exists, Nintendo has kept information regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 under wraps as best as possible. That is until April 2, when they will “share a closer look”.
