Only 2 Days Before The Nintendo Switch 2 Launches "Out of Stock" Signs Hit Retail

It is finally Nintendo Switch 2 release week, and to prepare retail locations that will carry the new console, Nintendo has shipped ‘Out of Stock’ signs to retailers.

Before the Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed, Nintendo forecasted worries based on stock issues surrounding the next console. Nintendo themselves have said in the past that they’ve delayed the Switch 2, specifically to allow console stock to meet the demand of customers and to deter scalpers from running the market as they’ve done with previous Nintendo console releases.

But today, it appears Nintendo still believes retail locations will sell out, as a report from VGC exposes a post made by a Reddit user whose retail location has received signage consistent with the Nintendo Switch 2’s impending out-of-stock status. Reddit user Alternative_Basket19 posted the below photo of Switch 2 “out of stock” signage with the headline “Got these signs in from Nintendo, they got jokes”.

Nintendo has also notably warned Japanese players that there may not be enough stock to go around for launch day, as 2.2 million applied for its My Nintendo pre-order lottery. A long-winded post on X (formerly Twitter) from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explains that even after two rounds of Switch 2 pre-order releases they will not be able to meet demand. The post can be seen below, from the official Nintendo account.

Furukawa says “On April 2, we announced the details of Nintendo Switch 2 and began accepting applications for a lottery sale on the My Nintendo Store. As a result, we received applications from an astonishing 2.2 million people in Japan alone. However, this far exceeded our prior expectations and greatly surpasses the number of Nintendo Switch 2 units we can deliver from the My Nintendo Store on June 5. Consequently, it is with great regret that we anticipate a significant number of customers will not be selected in tomorrow’s lottery announcement on April 24.” Furukawa continues with an apology that some fans will not be able to get a console on June 5.

With Furukawa’s statements and the out-of-stock signage, it appears the Nintendo Switch 2 will sell out quickly so fans on the fence should act accordingly.
