No Moon Studios’ CEO, the developer behind the Ori series, has just given an explanation why No Rest For The Wicked may not be coming to Xbox consoles.

Despite how it looks, No Moon Studios‘ CEO and co-founder, Thomas Mahler assures there are no ‘conspiracy theories’ behind the developer’s decision to only commit to PS5 for their console roll out of No Rest For The Wicked. The new title from No Moon Studios is currently in early access on the Steam platform, and this week Thomas Mahler took to Discord to give fans further details surrounding a console release.

After posting to Discord, Mahler recorded a reply on X (formerly Twitter) confirming “PS5 makes the most sense at the moment,” regarding the console port of No Rest For The Wicked after a fan posted the title might skip the Xbox platform. This is a very different story where No Moon Studios is concerned, the previous well-regarded Ori series launched as a console exclusive on Xbox in 2015.

Late last night, Mahler took to the NeoGAF forum to explain, “Folks, can we drop the conspiracy theory insanity?” adding “So no, it’s not a shakedown, it’s called common f***ing sense” when it comes to developing first for the PS5.

Mahler continues, “we’ll first support the platform that has the most users purely out of resource reasons. We’re a comparatively small indie studio, so doing a console port at the quality level we want is not a small task. Porting to Xbox means porting to Xbox Series X and Series S and that’ll take more time to optimize compared to porting to PS5 and PS5Pro.” He then went on to explain No Rest For The Wicked will “supply other ports later” because the release pattern makes sense for the smaller studio.

No Moon Studios is focused on catering to their fans, and Mahler says fan’s biggest demands boil down to Co-op and console support. Mahler explained the fastest and easiest way for the small No Moons Studio to get there, would be developing first for the PS5, then everyone else (if they do at all). He went on to explain further the studio will need to discuss ports with Nintendo and Microsoft and what happens after that, will happen.

While it appears a PS5 port is all but confirmed for launch regarding No Rest For The Wicked, Xbox may be left at the station.
