The upcoming anticipated life simulator meant to ‘rival The Sims‘, Life by You has been officially cancelled by the Paradox Interactive team and the team cites “a clear failure on Paradox’s part”.
Today, Paradox Interactive let out a sad official statement on their website that announced the cancellation of one of their upcoming titles, the life simulator Life by You. Initially announced back in March 2023, Life by You was meant to rival Electronic Arts’ The Sims franchise, until today where Paradox has hammered the final nail into the coffin. Life by You has had a notable rocky development period since its announcement, with the latest bad news happening back on May 20 when Paradox Interactive announced the June 4 early access period would be delayed indefinitely. In a release published this morning Paradox Interactive CEO, Fredrik Wester said “For a long time, we’ve held hopes for Life by You and the potential we saw in it, but it is now clear that the game will not be able to meet our expectations. A version that we’d be satisfied with is too far away, and therefore we are taking the difficult decision to cancel the release. Moving forward, we should perform at a much higher level, and it’s obvious that we have work ahead of us.”
Wester then states “Even though we now start new projects in a different manner, it is clear that we must make further changes so that quality is more consistent and the promises we make to our players are met,” Wester has admitted Paradox Interactive has “performed poorly in recent releases” and this is the company’s attempt at righting the ship. Wester also says “We have to evaluate how we manage projects and how we organize, for we will and must get better” taking accountability for the abrupt cancellation.
Life by You was spearheaded by Paradox Tectonic, a development branch led by Second Life creator, Rod Humble, and while Life by You will not hit shelves, Paradox Tectonic appears to be safe from layoffs for now (unless an announcement is made).
