Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA have released new details about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, with events taking place immediately after Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
As Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii occurs directly after Infinite Wealth—which stars the non-Kiryu protagonist Ichiban Kasuga—Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has revealed some storyline elements of the latest game, set for release in February. The newest Like a Dragon follows fan-favourite character Goro Majima as he reclaims his memories, forms a pirate crew and explores the open sea in search of legendary treasure. The latest trailer for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii can be viewed below, featuring naval combat and Goro Majima in a new costume—a first for the series.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Key Features
- Naval Combat – Players can sail across the ocean, exploring for treasure and scouting out nearby islands, but also Goro Majima can deploy the Yakuza brand of violence on the open sea now. Players will captain their ship, the Goro Maru, to avoid incoming cannon fire and return fire all on the water. A ship modification system will allow players the ability to survive and deploy more effective weaponry and strategy for harder naval confrontations. Ryu Ga Gotoku has also revealed the exciting Pirates’ Coliseum in Madlantis, a battle arena that has players face off against nine other crews.
- Battle Styles – Like other Like a Dragon titles, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii deploys two distinct battle styles players can dynamically switch between two styles – Mad Dog and Sea Dog. The Mad Dog style lets players freely combine fists, kicks and knife strokes to defeat enemies in style. Majima can fill up his Madness Gauge by dealing damage, and with enough madness, he can summon a group of shadowy doppelgangers to multiply Majima’s destructive force. The Sea Dog style lets players dual-wield cutlasses to perform devastating slash combos, and utilize sidearms to put the hurt on enemies.
- Sidearms & Dark Instruments – Players will be able to utilize three sidearms: Cutlass Boomerang, Pistol and Chain Hook to dismantle adversaries with the Sea Dog style. A wealth of Dark Instruments can be used to call upon creatures (or summons as the Like a Dragon series normally deploys) that hurt Majima’s enemies. Playing the violin summons hungry man-eating sharks to the battlefield to deal damage to threats, while the guitar Dark Instrument calls upon a massive ape that unleashes immense uppercuts upon enemies.
With all of these details revealed, fans will only have to wait until February 21, 2025 to test out their sea legs in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Fans can also visit the official Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio website for more information ahead of the release.
