The cult classic hit Plants vs. Zombies is coming back, upgraded and refined in Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted. PopCap Studios has released the launch trailer for the game, showing off a bit of the remaster’s improvements. If you look carefully, you might even see a cameo from one of Half-Life’s iconic Headcrabs.

First and foremost, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is a visual upgrade for the very first PvZ game, giving an HD coat of paint to the already colourful and eccentric worlds. Everything in the original game is back, including minigames like Walnut Bowling.

But you’ll also have the option to play in local co-op with a friend, or face off in a PvP mode where one player takes control of the zombies. Players on Nintendo Switch 2 can even play both of these modes with just one copy of the game, using the system’s GameShare feature.

However, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted also features two brand-new modes that significantly shake up the game’s formula. Cloud Day Mode is a feature where weather impacts the battlefield, like sunlight being limited and forcing you to be tactical about where you plant. But there’s other weather too, like clouds that roll in and make your sunflowers go to sleep. Cloud Day, by far, looks like the most fascinating addition to Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, adding a layer of unpredictability to the experience.

On the other side, Rest in Peace is a roguelike mode where you have to contend with Permadeath, and a single mistake could send you all the way back to the beginning.

In addition to all this, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted will feature a new Art and Concept Library, with never-before-seen pre-production sketches and history on the game.

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted launches on October 23 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and PC. The remaster is $19.99 on all systems.
