Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds Reaches New Milestone On Steam

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds have reached a new milestone, in that the popular PVP focused game has the honour of being the highest concurrently played title on Steam, for a non-Valve title.

The information gleamed from Steamspy shows that Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds is currently sitting at number 03, with Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive taking the first two slots. This is a quite feat for Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, with only Skyrim beating it during its launch with an impressive 287,000 player count.

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds originally launched on the now defunct Steam Greenlight service, since then the game’s popularity soared as it became one of the most streamed and played games this year. Recently it was announced that Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds would be receiving downloadable content based on the popular Japanese movie Battle Royale.

Those unfamiliar with the title, the game plays similarly to titles such as H1Z1, DayZ, and Rust. 100 players are pitted against one another in a large open map with a twist, as the match progresses the playable safe area shrinks, forcing players to eventually meet and engage in combat.  The highly popular game is set to release on Xbox one and Xbox One X as a timed console exclusive, with a PlayStation 4 version slated for an announced date. The developers of the popular game have tweeted about the great milestone the title has reached, which can be viewed below.

Other milestones for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds include the impressive feat of already garnering over 67,000 players on Steam alone since its release, as well holding the number one spot on Twitch, with anywhere from 150,000 viewers at any given time. With console versions imminent, the popularity for title should continue to soar and reach new players all over the world, more so if the game supports cross-play between the already massive pool of PC players.
