PlayStation 5 Brings Back Classic UI Customizations With New Update

The PlayStation Blog has been on fire today with a new teaser for Ghost of Yōtei, and now Sony has revealed a new update that returns PlayStation 5 classic UI customization options to the dashboard.

A new update detailed by the PlayStation Blog has revealed that Sony is returning the popular UI customization options deployed for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, along with a software update that includes new audio focus functionality. Back in December, Sony initially launched the UI customization options to an incredibly popular reception. Sony made the puzzling decision to announce “For a limited time, you can change parts of the PS5 design based on your favourite generation of PlayStation,” adding “Select a design to apply to your home screen and other areas” on the then limited rollout.

Thankfully, fan voices have been heard, and Sony has decided to return the functionality exactly as it was implemented during the PlayStation 30th anniversary, back to PlayStation 5 consoles. Fans can return their PlayStation 5 UI home screen to one that mirrors the generation that speaks to them the most. VP of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shuzo Kikuchi, says, “Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from our community, we’re happy to bring back the look and feel of the four console designs for players to customize the home screen on PS5!”

On top of the PlayStation 5 UI customization return, audio focus has been added to the menu on PlayStation 5. Audio focus increases player immersion by giving users presets meant to amplify soft sounds. This can help hearing-impaired gamers immerse themselves in ambient background noise easily, and presets are meant to meet an individual’s hearing preferences. The main goal is to ensure a clearer audio experience when using headphones or headsets.

The new PlayStation 5 setting can be found under the PS5 home screen. Heading to  [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus] gets a player started. From there, presets can be toggled to tailor audio focus to the user. Volume can be adjusted to three separate settings: weak, medium, and strong, so hearing-sensitive users can quiet the noise as well if they wish.

The new update, including the return of PlayStation 5 UI customization options launches on April 24.
