Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play gave fans a deep dive into Japan’s creative side, showcasing major RPGs, horror revivals and cozy indies all heading to PlayStation soon.
Sony wrapped up its special Japan-focused State of Play presentation yesterday, packing 40 minutes with gameplay reveals, launch dates and fresh content for both major franchises and smaller indie projects. The showcase leaned heavily into titles from Japanese developers, giving fans a solid look at what’s coming to PlayStation hardware over the next several months. The lineup offered something for every type of player and even included a few surprises that few were expecting.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Returns
The event kicked off with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, showing off its updated pixel art style and combat mechanics. The game launches on PlayStation 5 on Feb. 5 and includes a new episode where players reunite with an adult Keifa in previously unexplored territory.
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake
Horror fans got plenty to chew on during the broadcast. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake showed off its atmospheric improvements, with updated hardware bringing new life to the 2003 Japanese horror classic. Players will explore a cursed village and fight spirits using the Camera Obscura when the game drops on March 12.
BokenLore
BrokenLore also delivered some scares with two announcements: BrokenLore: Unfollow, a social media-themed first-person horror game launching Jan. 16, and BrokenLore: Ascend, which tasks players with climbing Tokyo Tower while facing threats along the way. That one arrives in summer 2026.
Cozy Time With InKonbini & Coffee Talk
The cozy game crowd wasn’t left out either. inKonbini puts players behind the counter of a convenience store in a quiet town, where they’ll interact with regulars and shape their story through daily choices. It’s coming in April 2026 with some impressive lighting work. Coffee Talk Tokyo continues the series with a new Tokyo café setting, where players serve drinks to humans and yōkai descendants while listening to their stories. That launches March 5.
Elden Ring: Nightreign — Forsaken Hollows
Several major franchises announced new content, with a number of popular games set to receive downloadable content in the coming months. Elden Ring: Nightreign revealed its first DLC expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, dropping Dec. 4 with two new playable characters called Nightfarers—the Scholar and the Undertaker—plus two new bosses.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds Free Title Update 4 arrives Dec. 16, adding the Giant Halberd Dragon Gogmazios along with new endgame content and seasonal events.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins — Visions of Four Heroes DLC,
Dynasty Warriors: Origins showed off its Visions of Four Heroes DLC, bringing a new story focused on the Four Heroes with expanded battlefields and combat. That expansion launches Jan. 22.
Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack DLC
Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack DLC arrives Dec. 4, introducing 24-hour endurance racing and full race weekends for players seeking an authentic motorsport experience.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls announced a closed beta starting Dec. 5 at midnight Pacific time, adding Spider-Man and Ghost Rider to the roster. Players can now mix and match heroes and villains across two new stages.
Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse
The indie section featured some intriguing titles. Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse from Pocketpair is a 2D roguelike with co-op for up to four players, letting you take control of enemies you defeat. It launches March 5.
MotionRec
MotionRec takes a record-and-replay approach to puzzle solving, asking players to move, jump and record their actions to overcome impossible paths in a machine-dominated world. That one arrives in spring 2026.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Tokyo Xtreme Racer returns to PlayStation after 20 years, launching Feb. 26 with more than 400 rivals and 180 kilometres of faithfully recreated Tokyo highways.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X brings 14 characters to its roguelike action spin-off on Feb. 12.
Kyouran Makaism
Kyouran Makaism from the Disgaea team launches Jan. 29, letting players transform defeated enemies into 16 types of familiars.
Octopath Traveler 0
A free demo for Octopath Traveler 0 is out now, giving players a chance to experience the first three hours ahead of the full launch on December 4 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Progress carries over to the complete game, letting you start your journey early and explore the world introduced in today’s new trailer.
Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac
Sonic the Hedgehog is racing into Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac starting today. The crossover adds new stages inspired by Sonic’s universe, complete with signature speed mechanics, familiar characters, and a climactic showdown with Dr. Eggman. The update is available now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Wandering Sword
Wandering Sword is set to launch on May 28, 2026, with pre-orders now open. Set in ancient China and brought to life through detailed pixel art, the RPG features dual battle modes, twenty branching endings shaped by player choices, and a full Japanese voice cast to bring its story to life.

No Sleep for Kaname Date
No Sleep for Kaname Date, the newest entry in the AI: The Somnium Files series, is expanding beyond its original platforms. Following its debut on Nintendo Switch and PC earlier this year, the mystery adventure will arrive on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 26, bringing its mix of surreal dream dives and detective storytelling to a wider audience.
One Surprise Hardware Announcement
The showcase concluded with hardware news: a new 27-inch PlayStation gaming monitor featuring a DualSense charging hook, QHD resolution, and up to 240Hz refresh rates on PC. It’s coming to Japan and the U.S. in 2026, although no word on whether it will make its way to Canada at the time of writing.
