Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO Trainers will soon be able to participate in upcoming Shadow Raids and Max Battles using Remote Raid Passes, fueling players’ enthusiasm for raiding.

As Trainers return to the wild to capture and battle Pokémon, new Shadow Raids and Max Battle events are on the way. With these events scheduled for release in May 2025, Pokémon GO Trainers will soon have access to Shadow Raids and Max Battles through Remote Raid Passes. In addition, both the Remote Raid and Max Particles limits will be increased.

For those unfamiliar, Remote Raid Passes allow Pokémon GO Trainers to enter Raid Battles that appear nearby or are visible on the Map view. Trainers can acquire these passes by purchasing them in the Shop or by earning them as special event rewards. Whether selecting a Remote Raid from the Raid tab, a Gym, or receiving a Raid Invitation from a friend, up to five Trainers can join a Pokémon Raid remotely; however, their attack power will be reduced compared to Trainers attending in person.

Beginning May 13 with the “Crown Clash: Taken Over” event, Trainers can participate in Shadow Raids using Remote Raid Passes. As Team Rocket seizes control of Dialga and several other Pokémon, Trainers will face a variety of Shadow Raids and battles to save the Shadow Pokémon under the control of Team Rocket grunts and Giovanni. In addition, the “Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day” starts May 19, introducing Gigantamax Machamp. This Max Battle will be accessible via Max Particles and, for the first time, Remote Raid Passes. Trainers attending Max Battles in person will receive an extra Premier Ball and additional XP.

With these updates, both the Remote Raid and Max Particles limits will be increased. For players who enjoy raiding, the Remote Raid limit will rise from five to 10 and may be expanded to 20 during special events, such as the upcoming Community Day Classic on May 24. Meanwhile, the Max Particles limit will increase from 1,000 to 1,500, supporting Trainers as they participate in Max Battles and upgrade their Pokémon Max Moves.

With these exciting changes, Pokémon GO Trainers will be able to take on Shadow Raids and Max Battles from anywhere. For further details, fans can visit the Pokémon GO blog.
