During the Nintendo Direct, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo unveiled more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A, showcasing a new mode called the Z-A Royale and further looking into Lumiose City.

As we prepare for the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, 2025, Nintendo has hosted a Nintendo Direct today, showcasing many current projects arriving on the Nintendo Switch. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A releasing in late 2025, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have shared a glimpse into Lumiose City and Z-A Royale, a new mode to test trainers’ skills as they climb the rank to become the best.

During the day in Lumiose City, explore the wild zones to catch and train Pokémon to prepare for the Z-A Royale, which commences when the day turns to night. From Rank Z, climb your way by battling fellow trainers and friends to reach the highest rank, Rank A. But this won’t be your ordinary battle zone, as you must utilize strategies and timing to fight against the higher-ranked opponents. However, if the opponent is too powerful against your Pokémon, trainers can escape from battle to recoup and train their Pokémon to become stronger.

Before you can climb the rank in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, trainers must gather ticket points from winning battles in the battle zone to claim the Challenger’s Ticket, a key item required to compete in a promotion match.  But beware, trainers in the promotion match are no pushover as they strive to reach Rank A like yourself.

Returning to Lumiose City since Pokémon X and Y, trainers can explore the city in the Kalos region again in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, set sometime in the future after the event of the 6th generation. In the open-world game, the trainers embark on their adventure with Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile, exploring the city and wild zones to capture more Pokémon and train to be part of your team. Not only are the trainers returning to Lumiose City, but Mega Evolution is returning to the game, bringing back Mega Charizard X, Mega Lucario, Mega Gardevoir, and more.

The Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released in late 2025 for the Nintendo Switch, returning to the beloved Lumiose City. To learn more about the upcoming title, visit the Pokémon Legends website.
