Square Enix is set to have a busy start to next year, as yet another remake joins the company’s 2027 lineup. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a full-blown remake, is set to launch on February 16, 2027, for all modern systems.
Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, this new version of Romancing SaGa 3 looks to be in the exact same vein as the Romancing SaGa 2 remake that released back in 2024, updating the game with 3D graphics, fully voiced cutscenes, and overhauled combat systems and more. Even the aesthetic and art style look remarkably similar. You can see the first trailer below.
Romancing SaGa 3 first released on the Super Famicom in 1995, and carried on the series’ legacy of robust player choice while revamping the magic system, adding a wealth of minigames, and focusing on eight distinct protagonists. It removed the generation system from Romancing SaGa 2, along with permanent character death and handing down skills.
It looks like pretty much everything in the original game has been retained for the remake, while adding new features like selectable difficulty levels. Here’s an overview of the game’s story via Square Enix.
“Once every 300 years, the Rise of Morastrum eclipses the sun and destroys all newborn life, sparing only a single survivor known as the Child of Destiny. Six hundred years ago, that child became the Archfiend who brought ruin, while three hundred years ago another became the Matriarch who drove back the darkness. Now, over a decade after the latest Rise, the Archfiend’s Four Sinistrals have returned to the world, prying open the Abyss Gates that separate the mortal realm from the Abyss.
Players will take control of one of eight protagonists, Mikhail, Monika, Katarina, Khalid, Julian, Thomas, Sarah or Ellen, and begin the search for the Child of Destiny from their own unique perspective. Additionally, you can meet and recruit over 20 other characters along the way, each with individual stats and abilities. Every character’s seven base attributes can also be shaped by a Nonastrum, a star of fate the player assigns that influences their affinity with techs and spells.”
