In 2012, Lunar Software debuted Routine, a space horror title with a release date originally set for 2013 and over a decade later, fans have good news from the developers.

Back in 2012, Lunar Software announced their title, Routine, as a Space Horror approved by the then-active Steam Greenlight program. For the uninitiated, the Steam Greenlight program was instituted as a way for fans to vote on which indie games they’d like to see added to the Steam platform.

Developers would submit their titles to Greenlight, fans would vote on the titles, and after enough votes were tallied, the indie title would be considered for release on Steam’s marketplace. Since 2017, this program has been shuttered, and it has stopped taking applications, paving the way for Steam’s Steam Direct submission model. Steam Direct is a like-minded program that has been in effect since Greenlight approved its last title.

One of these fan-voted titles, Routine, had a scheduled release date in 2013. Over a decade later, the developers at Lunar Software have exciting news to share regarding Routine, since the devs have remained silent after its most recent appearance at Summer Game Fest 2022. The re-reveal trailer shown at SGF 2022 can be seen below.

In a Steam blog post, Lunar Software has confirmed that not only is Routine still in development, Lunar Software is approaching the finish line on the title. The Lunar Software blog update reads “ROUTINE is still very much in active development, and we are beginning to approach the finish line for the game. We’ve learned a lot from past experiences, one of those is not to commit to a release window before we’re absolutely sure we can hit it. However, we’re confident that we’ll be able to share more news on that front soon.”

It’s worth mentioning that well-known Composer Mick Gordon (known for DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal) left the project in 2024, but his composed music will be heard in the final project, although music will be handled by a different audio designer. Lastly, Lunar Software assures fans that they will have more information regarding Routine’s development soon. Fans can check out Lunar Software’s website for what they’ve posted so far regarding the upcoming horror title.
